All public sector organisations have obligations to reduce their carbon emissions. The Future Jobs Fund trainees at WiganRecycles designed a programme to train public sector workers in how to drive more fuel efficiently. Called the “EcoDrive” programme, we got our first opportunity to deliver this to staff at Ashton, Leigh and Wigan PCT during a three week period in March and April 2010. We delivered a total of 40 sessions at 14 different sites - offices and clinics - around the borough. Feedback from this pilot was highly positive - 96% of the recipients thought that they would be able to drive more fuel efficiently as a result of the training.
Our Future Jobs Fund trainees all completed a Professional Trainers certificate, accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
We are negotiating an extension of this programme for NHS staff across the borough, and we are discussing delivering the programme to staff at Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council. We also deliver this training – free of charge! - to community and not for profit groups across the borough. If you're interested, contact us on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
